Runners and walkers of every age and stage enjoyed the annual Thornbury Turkey Trot in support of the Thornbury Clarksburg Rotary Club this Saturday, Oct. 7. The event attracted over 700 participants, and is a major fundraiser for the club. Proceeds from the annual event support the many needs of the local community along with a variety of international aid projects.

The rain held off and blue skies rolled in as the opening ceremonies began. The free kids run was a huge success with just under 200 energy-filled children running with parents in tow around the fields of Moreau Park. There were lots of smiles as they crossed the finish line to receive their medals. Some more serious youth runners challenged themselves in the timed five-kilometre run, bringing in some impressive results.

Runners and walkers from near and far gathered to tackle the five-kilometre run/walk, 10-kilometre or half-marathon routes through the fall colours of the Beaver Valley. The Thanksgiving run has become a destination event with guests from all over the province enjoying the region’s specular fall scenery. With music pumping and the cheering crowd, some wearing their roasted turkey hats, participants got their gobble on to begin the race. The competitive running crowd brought in some impressive results while many families enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving dinner stroll.

The Rotary Club of Thornbury Clarksburg gives thanks to our community for supporting this event and others. On deck is the club’s “Kindness At Play” Gala on Nov. 11, in support of the revitalization of Moreau Park. Tickets and more information can be found at www.tcrotary.ca.

A special thank you to all of our community sponsors who helped make the Thornbury Turkey Trot possible. See you next year, same gobble time, same gobble place.

Congratulations to our overall winners!
