The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) announced its first-ever rabies vaccination clinic coming up later this month.

The local shelter is hosting the clinic in Meaford at the fire hall (81 Stewart Road) on Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

According to the GTHS website, the shelter’s veterinarian Dr. Anick Amaro, will be vaccinating cats and dogs for a fee of $20. Pre-registration is not required, and the clinic is operating on a first-come, first-served basis.

The GTHS has partnered with the Municipality of Meaford and the Grey Bruce Health Unit for this rabies vaccine clinic.

It is required under the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act for pet owners to keep cats, dogs, and ferrets over three months old vaccinated for rabies.

Rabies is fatal, and once a pet displays the symptoms it usually dies within seven to 10 days. Rabies is also communicable between pets and people.

If you suspect your pet may have rabies, contact your veterinarian immediately.
