Special weather statement in effect for:
  • Barrie - Collingwood - Hillsdale

A prolonged period of freezing rain and rain is expected this weekend. Freezing rain will be favoured over higher terrain, while rain will be favoured elsewhere.

Hazards:
20 to 30 mm of rain
5 to 15 mm of ice accretion over higher terrain
Isolated power outages and slippery roads and surfaces in areas of freezing rain

Timing:
Rain and freezing rain will begin early Saturday morning and taper to drizzle by late Saturday evening.

Discussion:
Patchy snow flurries or some freezing drizzle tonight will change to steadier rain and freezing rain early Saturday morning. Elevation will be a key feature in this system: areas of higher terrain should see prolonged freezing rain and possibly ice storm conditions, whereas areas of lower terrain should experience mainly rain.

A Freezing Rain Warning will likely be needed for higher elevation areas to address this threat. A Rainfall Warning is also being considered for lower elevation areas as this event draws nearer.
