A fire has completely destroyed a townhouse in the Cranberry Trail East subdivision and damaged two others.

No people were injured in the blaze, as the two home occupants had evacuated on their own before fire crews arrived. Smoke alarms were sounding in the home to alert the residents of the fire.

Collingwood Fire Department was called to a home on Gregory Ave. at 12:05 p.m. on April 5, 2023, and crews remained on site at 5 p.m. this evening to continue working on ventilating and overhauling the damaged unit. Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the home.

Deputy Chief Stephen Emo said the homes on both sides of the unit where the fire was were also evacuated and sustained smoke damage.

Emo said the cause of the fire is undetermined at this point, but it started in the basement of the home. He classified the damage to the home as a "total loss."

The Office of the Fire Marshal was informed of the fire, but Emo said the fire marshal is not investigating.
