COVID-19: Here's the situation in Collingwood today

Four cases confirmed in Collingwood this weekend bringing local total to seven lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases

There were four more cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Collingwood residents yesterday afternoon.

According to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit there were an additional 29 cases confirmed from Thursday afternoon to Saturday afternoon.

The new Collingwood cases include a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 70s, a man in his 70s, and a woman in her 70s.

The woman in her 50s is self-isolating, and the health unit has reported her case is community-acquired.

Both of the women in their 70s have a travel history. One woman is reported recovered and the other is self isolating. The man in his 70s is self-isolating and is a close contact of a known case.

There is also another confirmed case in a Wasaga Beach resident. A male in his 60s with a travel history is confirmed positive. He is the third Wasaga Beach resident to be confirmed with the virus, including one man who has died.

The health unit reported two more deaths in Simcoe County and one in Muskoka, including the region’s first death in a long-term care resident. The man in his 90s was a resident of Bradford Valley long-term care facility.

Public Health Ontario confirmed an additional 401 cases of COVID-19 in this morning’s report, bringing the provincial total to 7,409, including 274 deaths, 3,121 recoveries, and 738 people in hospital.

According to the epidemiological report posted by Public Health Ontario on April 12, the infection rate in Simcoe Muskoka region is 23 per 100,000 people, which is below the provincial average of 47.4 per 100,000.

Grey Bruce Health Unit has reported 35 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one person in Meaford. Ten of those people have recovered.

Regional and provincial health officials are asking people not to travel this weekend, and to find non-physical ways to connect with family members outside your home this Easter.
