Colts one win away from first-round playoff victory

The Colts will play game six of a seven-series playoff tomorrow and, if necessary, game seven will be on home ice

The Collingwood Colts are one win away from winning their divisional playoffs. 

The Colts started the series with a 2-0 lead, but Stouffville Spirit answered with two victories of their own to tie up the series. Game five was tense as the Colts hosted the Spirit at the Eddie Bush on March 6. The Colts took an overtime victory and now have three wins in a seven-game playoff series. 

The following are the game summaries submitted by the Collingwood Colts.

The Collingwood Colts made the trip to Stouffville on March 5 for game four of the best of seven series.

Stouffville, coming off a win in game three, had the momentum and kept it rolling into game four.

Stouffville opened the scoring in the first period taking a 1-0 lead into intermission.

The second period they continued to add to their lead with 3 unanswered goals to make it 4-0. Collingwood responded, and rearguard #26 Mason Piercey scored his first as a member of the Collingwood Colts.

The third period saw the Colts continue the comeback charge as captain #22 Adrian Nabuurs scored, making it a two-goal deficit. Unfortunately, that’s as close as Collingwood would get. Stouffville added an empty-net goal to make it 5-2 final and draw even in the series.

Collingwood Colts returned home to the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena for game five on March 6 versus the Stouffville Spirit.

The Colts opened the scoring in this matchup when forward #19 Matthew Zebedee tipped the puck past the Spirit goalie to make it 1-0. The lead evaporated quickly, Stouffville scored twice to take the lead late in the first period. Collingwood answered before the period ended, #20 Payton Schaly scored to tie the game at 2-2.

Stouffville added their third goal of the game in the second period leaving the Colts down by one heading to the final period. Not to be outdone the Collingwood Colts drew even in the third thanks to #57 Landis Antonic who made it 3-3 and the game went into overtime.

Both teams had their chances in the extra time but it was the hometown Colts that prevailed as #20 Payton Schaly scored his second of the game securing the game five win for Collingwood. The Colts now lead the best of seven series 3-2.

Collingwood will head to Stouffville on Sunday for game six with the opportunity to clinch the series and move on to the second round. Game seven of the series is scheduled for Monday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena should it be necessary.
