Collingwood remembers with Cenotaph service and parade (52 photos)

Photos from this morning's Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph.

Collingwood marked the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in battle with a morning Remembrance Day service.

As is tradition, the service began with a parade led by Town Crier and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 63 Sergeant-at-Arms Ken Templeman, who was followed by the Bienn Gorm Highlanders, Veterans, military personnel, OPP, members of town council, Army Cadets, Girl Guides and Boy Scouts.

The service opened with a special cry performed by Ken Templeman, called A Cry For Peace, which was read all over the world today to mark the end of the First World War 100 years ago. After O Canada, performed by Sara-Dale Hartshorn, was the Act of Remembrance then a moment of silence.

Trumpeter Don Donor performed The Last Post and Reveille and piper, Sheila Stewart performed a Lament.

After the laying of the wreaths, the crowd joined together to sing the hymn, O God Our Help in Ages Past. Lorne Kenney recited In Flanders Fields, and Branch 63 Padre Rev. Dr. Brian Goodings delivered a moment of reflection and a prayer. After God Save the Queen, members of the crowd lined up to leave their poppies on the cenotaph in remembrance of lives lost in war.

There will be another service this evening in Millenium Park starting at 6:55 p.m., which will include the lighting of a fire beacon and will mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
