Collingwood's firefighters have been out on thin ice to take a crack at some rescue training this week.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Dan Thurman, the Collingwood Fire Department does annual ice water rescue training with each platoon taking turns with the training officer working with various rescue equipment on the bay.
The weather is near perfect for the training exercises.
"The water is not really frozen enough and you can still fall through," said Thurman. "And that's when accidents happen."
The training involves simulations of various rescue scenarios with the firefighters taking turns being both the rescuer and the rescuee.
