Collingwood celebrates shipbuilding heritage, waterfront with weekend festival

The annual Sidelaunch Days included the town's first-ever drone show

Collingwood's harbourfront festival returned this weekend with activities that celebrate the joys of being in, on and around the waters of Georgian Bay with a nod to Collingwood's shipbuilding past.

The festival takes its name from the unique way that newly built ships were launched in Collingwood. They were dumped into the water on their side, or "sidelaunched."

The weekend event includes stand-up paddle races, free trials for kayaking and stand-up paddling, a vendor alley, tours of tall ships, and live music.

Sidelaunch Days continues with activities throughout today (Aug. 13). Visit the event website for more details.
