Clearview Township is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying those involved in vandalism that took place at Clearview’s EcoPark over the Victoria Day long weekend.

Clearview Township staff were appalled to find that vandals had taken fireworks to the nesting boxes in the EcoPark being used by native birds and to the portable washrooms rented by Clearview from BJ’s Portable Toilets for staff and Community Garden volunteers. Staff and concerned citizens reported the destruction and the OPP is actively investigating the incident.

Mayor Measures shared in the concern, “the destruction of birdhouses by the misuse of fireworks is unacceptable behaviour. I hope our community can do better and protect wildlife at our EcoPark.”

The EcoPark is a beautiful natural area, home to over 200 different species of birds that migrate through and live in Clearview Township, and is enjoyed daily by wildlife and residents. Clearview staff will begin the process of replacing the destroyed birdhouses in the coming weeks.

We urge anyone with information regarding this destruction of life in our EcoPark to please contact the Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers online.

Simcoe Dufferin Muskoka Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest. The fortunate recipient with information could receive a reward of up to $2000.
