Beacon lit at Millennium Park for Queen's Jubilee

A beacon of fire burned at Millennium Park to commemorate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee

Dignitaries in Collingwood marked the occasion of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee yesterday (June 2) with a beacon fire at Millennium Park.

Queen Elizabeth has held the throne of England for 70 years, making her the longest-reigning monarch.

As part of the jubilee celebrations from June 2-5, more than 3,500 beacons were lit up around the world to mark the occasion. The ceremony began with the Queen lighting a globe at Buckingham Palace.

In Collingwood, the town crier, Ken Templeman, led the beacon lighting ceremony and was joined by piper Scott Buchanan. The Collingwood Fire Department assisted with the fire beacon and the town's acting mayor and deputy mayor, Keith Hull and Mariane McLeod, attended.

The fire was lit at Millennium Park on the evening of June 2, 2022.
