Barbecue gives a lift to accessible bus campaign

Community event at Sunset Manor sought to raise funds to purchase a new bus for the long-term care home

On June 24, Sunset Manor in Collingwood held a community barbecue event to raise funds for their Give a Lift campaign. The campaign is looking to raise $188,700 for the purchase of a new accessible bus for the home.

As of the end of May, the campaign brought in $55,025.

The current bus being used at the home is a 2008 model year and has reached the end of its life cycle, as repair and maintenance costs will increase considerably from this point forward. A new bus will be more reliable, more fuel efficient and produce less emissions compared to the current 2008 model.

The bus is used for various resident outings including shopping trips, trips to the movies, restaurants, museums, zoos and to local parks.

The barbecue was sponsored by Lewis Motors with additional support by Stewart Food Service.
