A local artist is opening her home and her studio for a good cause.

Jane Wynne is selling some of her artwork this weekend and she will donate 50 per cent of the sales to the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.

Though Wynne doesn’t have any pets of her own yet due to a busy travel schedule, she believes in the work the GTHS does in the community and wants to support them.

Her art show features landscapes - both local and abroad - in watercolour and acrylic.

Wynne received some art training in England when she was younger, but didn’t pick up a paintbrush for 43 years.

“I had a busy career, and painting is not a hobby you can do with kids in the house,” she said.

Wynne was the tournament director for the Rogers Cup of tennis.

It was her granddaughter who made her return to her passion with a gift of a paint set.

“She said, ‘you’ve been talking about this for years, get on with it!’” laughed Wynne.

Since she’s picked up her brush again, she’s worked with artists across Ontario to hone her skills. She paints with the Marsh Street Painters in Clarksburg on Tuesdays, is a member of the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and is involved with the Blue Mountain School of Landscape Painters.

“The lovely thing about painting is you really look at things,” said Wynne, adding she is inspired by nature and is excited at the idea of recreating it on canvas.

Wynne hosts art shows in her home to show the art on the wall of a living room or in a kitchen as it would be after purchase. She has done charity shows before to support the hospice and the local hospital.

“It’s a good way to give back to the community,” she said.

Wynne also aims to make the show accessible with a wide range of prices and different sizes.

The show is at 225 Oak St. on March 24 and 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
