155 new COVID cases in Simcoe-Musoka over weekend, 4 in Collingwood

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 155 new COVID-19 cases and three deaths in its latest update posted Nov. 15.

This is the first update posted by the health unit since Nov. 12. 

All three deaths were Barrie residents whose cases were outbreak-related. They include a man between 45 and 64 years old and a woman between 65 and 79 years old, both of whom died on Nov. 11. A man between 65 and 79 years old died on Nov. 12. 

The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:  

  • Collingwood (4): One youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. The youth case is outbreak-related and the other three cases are still under investigation. 
  • Wasaga Beach (4): One person between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact and the other three cases are still under investigation. 
  • Clearview (3): One youth under 18 years old and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is listed as community-acquired (no known link) and the other two cases are still under investigation. 
  • Barrie (62): 21 youth under 18 years old, nine people between 18 and 34 years old, 14 people between 35 and 44 years old, 10 people between 45 and 64 years old, five people between 65 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years old. Seven cases are outbreak-related, four are linked to close contact transmission, three are listed as community-acquired (no known link), and the rest are still under investigation.
  • Springwater (8): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, three people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and two are still under investigation. 
  • Innisfil (8): Three youth under 18 years old, two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and the rest are still under investigation. 
  • Bradford West Gwillimbury (5): One youth under 18 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and two people between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are outbreak-related, one is linked to close contact transmission, and the other two are still under investigation. 
  • Orillia (11): Four youth under 18 years old, five people between 18 and 34 years old, and two people between 35 and 44 years old. All 11 cases are still under investigation. 
  • Oro-Medonte (2): One youth under 18 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission. 
  • Midland (5): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, and one person between 35 and 44 years old. All five cases are still under investigation. 
  • Tay (2): One youth under 18 years old, and one person between 18 and 34 years old. One case is linked to close contact transmission and the other case is still under investigation. 
  • Penetanguishene (5): Three youth under 18 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. All five cases are still under investigation. 
  • Essa (6): Two youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, and one person between 45 and 64 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact and two are listed as community-acquired (no known link). Two cases are still under investigation. 
  • New Tecumseth (16): Six youth under 18 years old, four people between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 35 and 44 years old, two people between 65 and 79 years old, and two people over 79 years old. Four cases are outbreak-related, one is listed as community-acquired (no known link), and the rest of the cases are still under investigation. 
  • Adjala-Tosorontio (2): Two youth under 18 years old. One case is linked to travel, the other is still under investigation. 
  • Muskoka District (12): Six people from Huntsville, five people from Bracebridge, one person from Gravenhurst,

Included in the new cases reported today are 94 unvaccinated, 11 partially vaccinated, and 50 fully vaccinated people. 

There are currently 446 active cases in the region. 

Fifteen people from Simcoe County and two from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19.

Last week, the health unit confirmed 325 new COVID cases in the region, which is up by 31 per cent compared to the 249 cases confirmed during the week of Oct. 31.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 14,649 cases of COVID-19 with 13,931 of those cases recovered and 272 cases ending in death. 

More than 73 per cent of the population living in Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) have received both doses of vaccine and 76 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.

Current school outbreaks in Simcoe County include: 

  • W.C. Little Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, five cases
  • Ferndale Woods Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 12, two cases 
  • Nottawa Elementary School, Clearview Township, declared Nov. 12, three cases
  • Terry Fox Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 10, six cases.
  • St. Bernadette Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 9, three cases.
  • St. Peters Secondary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 8, six cases.
  • Unnamed private school in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 8, two cases.
  • Willow Landing Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 4, three cases
  • ECC Samuel-de-Champlain public school, Orillia, declared Nov. 3, nine cases
  • St. Catherine of Siena Elementary School, Barrie, declared Nov. 1, nine cases

Other ongoing outbreaks reported in Simcoe County include: 

  • Recreation camp in Simcoe County, declared Nov. 10, three cases
  • Mapleview Community Church, Barrie, declared Nov. 4, 24 local cases (with more cases in people who live outside the region)
  • Unnamed childcare facility, declared Nov. 8, seven cases
  • Unnamed childcare facility, declared Nov. 4, three cases
  • Unnamed fitness and recreation facility, declared Nov. 2, three cases
  • Unnamed shelter, declared Nov. 1, 24 cases
  • A second unnamed shelter, declared Nov. 8, seven cases.
  • Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), Barrie in the transitional care unit, declared Oct. 29: 11 patient cases associated with the outbreak, plus fewer than five staff cases.
