The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 12 new COVID-19 cases in its latest report published Sept. 28.
Included in the new cases are nine unvaccinated individuals, two partially vaccinated people, and one fully vaccinated people.
The new cases reported in the region today are as follows:
- Wasaga Beach (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is linked to close contact transmission.
- Barrie (5): Two people between 18 and 34 years old, one person between 35 and 44 years old, one person between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission, one is linked to travel, and two cases are still under investigation.
- Innisfil (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- Essa (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is still under investigation.
- New Tecusmeth (3): One youth under 18 years old and two people between 18 and 34 years old. Two cases are linked to close contact transmission, and one is listed as community-acquired (no known link)
- Muskoka District (1): One case in Muskoka Lakes.
There are currently 137 active cases in the region.
Ten people from Simcoe County, and one person from Muskoka District are hospitalized with COVID-19, which includes three new hospitalizations since yesterday's report.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 13,471 cases of COVID-19 with 13,074 of those cases recovered and 260 cases ending in death.
According to the health unit, 79 per cent of the population 12 years and older living in Simcoe-Muskoka have received both doses of vaccine and 85 per cent have had at least one dose of a vaccine.
Approximately 26 per cent of the total population of Simcoe-Muskoka (including children) is unvaccinated and 68.6 per cent is fully vaccinated.
There are four school outbreaks in the region, with no additional outbreaks since yesterday's report.
There is an active outbreak at Monsignor Clair Public School in Barrie. There are three confirmed cases linked to the school, and the outbreak was declared on Sept. 22. Two classrooms are closed, but the school remains open.
On Sept. 20, the health unit declared an outbreak at W.H. Day Public School in Bradford where there are three cases. One classroom is closed.
On Sept. 17, the health unit declared an outbreak at Alliston Union Public School, there are four cases there. One classroom is closed.
On Sept. 15, the health unit declared an outbreak at Fieldcrest Elementary School in Bradford, there are two cases there. One classroom is closed.
The schools are still open, but the impacted cohort(s) have been instructed to self-isolate.
The health unit declares a school outbreak where there is evidence of person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 at the school.

Anyone born in 2009 or earlier living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
The health unit does sometimes remove a case or move them based on further investigation of location data. The chart below reflects updated totals for each municipality as reported by the health unit on Sept. 28.
