The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 11 new COVID-19 cases since its last update on Friday.
The new cases are all Simcoe County residents and three have been linked to travel.
There are 63 active cases in the region.
Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,300 cases of COVID-19 with 11,565 of those cases recovered and 251 cases ending in death.
There are 10 people from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19 related illness, which includes two new hospitalizations since Friday.
The health unit has reported a total of 4,920 variant strain cases, with 30 of those still active.
It can take several days to confirm a variant strain after a positive COVID-19 test result is reported to the health unit.
Today's update also includes the following information on variants of concern:
- 3,993 local cases have tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern B.1.1.7 (alpha), up one case since Friday
- 164 cases have tested positive for the P.1 (gamma) variant of concern, no increase
- 32 cases have tested positive for the B.1.351 (beta) variant of concern, no increase
- 57 cases have tested positive for the B.1.617.2 (delta) variant of concern, up one case since Friday
- 674 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).
To date, 396,394 Simcoe-Muskoka residents (65.6 per cent of the population) region have received their first dose of vaccination against COVID-19, and 200,214 people (33.1 per cent of the population) have received two doses.
Since June 25, the health unit has reported more than 60,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the region.
According to the health unit, 40 per cent of the region's adult population (aged 18 and over) have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, and another 36 per cent have received one dose. The remaining 24 per cent is unvaccinated.
Anyone aged 12 years or older living in Simcoe-Muskoka region can book their first or second dose of vaccine online via Ontario vaccine booking system. More appointments are added regularly for clinics throughout the region.
The new cases reported in Simcoe County and Muskoka District today include (case transmission is under investigation unless otherwise specified).
- Clearview (1): One youth under 18 years old whose case is linked to travel.
- Barrie (6): Two youth under 18 years old, one person between 18 and 34 years old, two people between 45 and 64 years old, and one person between 65 and 79 years old. Five cases are linked to close contact with other cases and one case is linked to travel.
- Orillia (1): One person between 65 and 79 years old whose case is listed as community-acquired (no known link).
- Bradford (2): One youth under 18 years old and one person between 18 and 34 years old whose case is associated with travel.
- Adjala-Tosorontio (1): One youth under 18 years old.
