CollingwoodToday welcomes letters to the editor at [email protected] or via our site. Please include your daytime phone number and address (for verification of authorship, not publication). The following letter is in response to a previous letter suggesting housing could follow a universal health-care approach.

We don't have affordable housing because of municipalities' insatiable fees needed to run these cities towns and hamlets. If you eliminate development fees, permits etc. your taxes would be in double digits.

Municipalities shouldn't be competing with the private sector because they can't even process building applications in less than, on average, 560 days.
Mayors, councils and civil servants spend more money on pet projects, let alone development.

Seriously, when was the last time any town projects were on time and on budget? Never.
