COVID-19 testing has confirmed one resident at Sunset Manor is positive for the coronavirus.

The long-term care home, operated by the County of Simcoe, has been in active COVID-19 outbreak since Nov. 8. The health unit declared the outbreak after a staff member at the home tested positive.

The province has mandated that one single case at a long-term care home constitutes an active outbreak and would trigger stricter protocols for infection control during an outbreak situation.

According to the county, the resident who tested positive is asymptomatic so far.

There are six additional residents in isolation "for precautionary reasons." The county reported those residents have tested negative, but will remain in isolation for 14 days.

"All the remaining residents are in quarantine and receiving tray service for meals until test results are returned and further direction from the health unit is provided," reads a statement from the county.

The county has reported 172 staff were tested during bi-weekly testing on Nov. 5. To date, 122 negative tests have been returned and all were negative. There are 50 tests still pending.

According to the county, only residents who consented to a test received a COVID swab test. The county has received 86 negative results and 49 test results are pending.
