Six new COVID cases confirmed in Simcoe-Muskoka today

There are six new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe-Muskoka region today, including three in Barrie and three in Muskoka. 

The three Barrie cases include a girl under 18 (close contact), a man between 65 and 79 years old, and a woman between 18 and 43 years old. The two adult cases are still under investigation and a transmission source has not been released. 

Mill Creek Care Centre in Barrie remains in a COVID-19 outbreak, which was declared on Aug. 24. So far, the health unit has reported a single staff member from the facility was confirmed positive with the coronavirus. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is also reporting three new cases in Muskoka District today. 

There hasn't been a COVID-19 case confirmed in Muskoka since Aug. 11, when one was confirmed in Gravenhurst and was a travel-related case.

Today's cases include a woman between 18 and 34 years old from Huntsville, a man between 18 and 34 years old from Georgian Bay Township, and a man between 45 and 64 years old from Bracebridge whose case is linked to an institutional outbreak. 

The last case confirmed in Huntsville was reported on July 13. This is the second case in Bracebridge and the first case was reported April 16.

Bradford West Gwillimbury's case count is down by one today. One case previously reported in Bradford West Gwillimbury was removed from the list today as the health unit discovered it was a duplicate listing. 

The health unit has confirmed 50 cases of COVID-19 in the region during the month of August. 

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has now reported a total of 708 coronavirus cases in the region, with 673 of the cases in Simcoe County. Of those, 638 cases are now listed as recovered and 37 people have died.

There are 30 cases of COVID in Simcoe County not reported recovered, including 23 in Barrie, three in Bradford, one in Innisfil, one in Wasaga Beach, one in Essa, and one in Tiny Township. One person is hospitalized in Barrie.
