Public Health Ontario has reported 2,903 new cases of COVID-19 today, (Jan. 12). This is the lowest number of cases reported in a day since Dec. 31.
The province has reported 41 deaths today. Of those, 23 were residents of long-term care homes.
One of the deaths reported today was an individual between 40 and 59 years old, eight were between 60 and 79 years old, and 32 were over the age of 80.
Since yesterday, 118 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19, and 22 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units.
The Jan. 12 updates provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data collected for Jan. 11:
- 3,362 new recoveries
- 1,701 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 1,563 reported yesterday.
- There are 385 COVID patients in intensive care units (down from 387 yesterday) and 262 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 268 yesterday).
- 30,141 current active cases in Ontario, which is down from 30,632 reported yesterday
- The province reported 44,802 tests processed yesterday resulting in a 7.8 per cent positivity rate. The province's goal is three per cent.
- There is a backlog of 43,154 tests awaiting processing.
- Of the 2,903 cases reported today, 837 are from Toronto, 545 are from Peel, 249 are from York Region, and 58 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
- Based on case data reported today, the new cases include 421 people under 20, 1,096 people between 20 and 39 years old, 811 people between 40 and 59 years old, 377 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 203 people over the age of 80.
- There are 261 ongoing, active outbreaks at long-term care homes in the province, 162 active outbreaks at retirement homes, and 84 active outbreaks at hospitals.
- There were 11,448 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on Jan. 11, up from 8,859 on Jan. 10.
- As of 8 p.m. on Jan. 11, the province reports 133,553 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- There are 6,046 total vaccinations completed (both doses), which is up from 5,884 reported yesterday. The vaccine approved for use requires two doses given 21 days apart.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 222,023 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 186,829 recoveries and 5,053 deaths, of which 3,027 were individuals living in long-term care homes
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 1,493.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario. The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 162.7 cases per 100,000 people from Jan. 2 to Jan. 8, which is an increase of 18.2 per cent compared to Dec. 27 to Jan. 2 when the average weekly incidence rate was 137.7 cases per 100,000 people.
Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 226 new cases of COVID-19 in the region since Friday.
The local health unit has now confirmed 4,309 cases of COVID-19 with 2,942 of those cases recovered and 73 cases ending in death. There are more than 1,200 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, with the majority of those in Simcoe County.
There are at least 35 people from Simcoe County hospitalized. There is one person hospitalized with COVID-19 at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.
In Simcoe-Muskoka the weekly incidence rate is also on the rise with 79.2 cases per 100,000 people for the week of Jan. 2 to Jan. 8, which is up by 16.5 per cent compared to the week of Dec. 27 to Jan. 2 when the rate was 68 cases per 100,000 people.
