The Canadian Forces Snowbirds will try again today for Operation Inspiration, which will include a flyover of Collingwood and Barrie. The flyovers were planned for yesterday but were cancelled due to weather. The planes will leave London today at 4:15 p.m. and land in Barrie at 5:15 p.m., so sometime during that hour they’ll be above Collingwood. If you’re going out to see them, remember to practice physical distancing.

Ontario reported its lowest daily case increase since March 31 today with 294 new lab-confirmed cases, 35 deaths and 389 recoveries.

Collingwood-area resident and president of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture, Keith Currie, said Ontario’s agri-food sector has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, estimating Ontario’s beef farmers are losing approximately $2 million per week during this crisis, and other farm businesses including dairy, beekeeping, and even equine are facing financial jeopardy due to constant changes and fluctuations in demand and pricing.

There have been no new cases confirmed in Collingwood today, but the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit does not provide COVID-19 case updates on the weekends.

The health unit has listed 11 cases in Collingwood including six that are considered community-acquired, three considered travel-related, one close contact and one listed as "under investigation." The cases have included six men and five women, and have ranged in age from 20s to 70s.

Seven people have recovered and one person is hospitalized at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

Today’s essential workers of the day are the members of the program and support services team at Sunset Manor.

CollingwoodToday would like your help in recognizing local essential workers from health care workers, physicians, cashiers and delivery drivers. If you'd like to say thanks to someone you know, please send a photo, their name, their job title, and your words of thanks to [email protected]. Please only send photos and information with permission.
