Lab-confirmed cases jumped provincially and regionally today with seven new positive results in Simcoe Muskoka and 100 in Ontario.

The provincial death toll is now nine people with three deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

There are now 21 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe Muskoka.

Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam told reporters yesterday there is a “fundamental shift” in the transmission of the disease in the nation.

Transmission by travel and within the community are now equal based on COVID-19 confirmed lab tests for Canada.
Regionally, the SMDHU medical officer of health, Dr. Charles Gardner, is reporting the same concern.

"We're starting to see a ramp-up, an acceleration in the number of lab-confirmed cases ... I'm expecting we're going to see more and more cases that are community-acquired," said Gardner in a media briefing today.

Residents in Collingwood have been decorating their street-facing windows to encourage passersby during the time of isolation and physical distancing.

If you have decorated your windows, send us a photo and we will add it to our photo gallery. Email photos to [email protected].
