Road leading to polling station under construction today

Preventative maintenance on the Tenth Line meant some delays for voters casting a ballot at Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club

Construction on a road leading to a polling station today has irked at least one local voter.

There were crews on-site at Tenth Line today performing maintenance work on the road by adding “Slurry Seal,” which is a thin application of an asphalt and aggregate mixture meant to prolong the life of the pavement on that road.

There is a local polling station at Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club on Tenth Line.

Dave Davidson, a Georgian Meadows resident said the construction work created “horrendus” traffic in the area where vehicles were restricted to a single lane.

Director of Public Works Brian MacDonald said the work was scheduled for last week, but delayed due to weather.

MacDonald said the road remained open to traffic all day, and the contractor placed traffic control people at each end to ensure the Slurry Seal is not damaged while it is being applied to the roadway.

“As with most road construction, there can be some minor delays to traffic, but the road is not closed,” said MacDonald.

He stated in an email at 2:30 p.m. he expected the work to be completed within the next hour, at which point the road will be fully open for normal traffic flow.

Polling stations will remain open until 9:30 p.m. this evening.
