Two new cases of COVID-19 reported in Grey Highlands today

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting 11 new cases of COVID-19 today.

The 11 new cases are located in: Owen Sound (4), Grey Highlands (2), Chatsworth (1), Georgian Bluffs (1), Meaford (1), Southgate (1), and Saugeen Shores (1).

Currently, there are 71 active cases in both counties combined, 99 per cent of which cases are considered to be the delta variant. 

Active COVID-19 cases in Grey County are currently located in: Owen Sound (28), Southgate (3), Grey Highlands (12), Hanover (2), West Grey (2), Meaford (7), Georgian Bluffs (3) and Chatsworth (3).  

The health unit is now tracking 232 high-risk contacts associated with the active cases.

Of GBHU’s 2,104 cumulative cases, 2,012 cases are resolved. In addition, 18 Grey-Bruce residents have died from COVID-19.

There are currently three confirmed cases in hospital in Grey Bruce, as well as two Grey-Bruce residents being hospitalized outside of the region.   

To-date the health unit has administered 214,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, 4,851 of which were administered in the past seven days.  

According to GBHU, 75.9 per cent of the eligible population in Grey Bruce has received the first dose of the vaccine and 67.5 per cent have received both doses. 

GBHU received a shipment of 15,210 vaccine doses on July 26, which will be focused on vaccine distribution to first and second dose vaccine clients via scheduled Hockey Hubs and walk-in clinics; First Nation/Metis communities; immuno-compromised/pregnancy focused clinics; eligible priority groups; mobile clinics; and many pop-up clinics.

Vaccine appointments can be made through the provincial on-line booking system for COVID-19 vaccinations at ontario.ca/bookvaccine. All Ontarians aged 18 years or older are eligible to re-book their second-dose appointments for an earlier time.  

In addition, GBHU has an app to assist Grey-Bruce residents in booking their COVID-19 vaccine appointments. The app is available free to download from Google Play and Apple Stores for all mobile devices and tablets.
