Tourism industry survey asks: how's the new normal?

Tourism industry members are asked to provide feedback before July 31

The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) has released its latest industry wide stakeholder survey aimed to collate real-time information on how tourism businesses are adapting to the ‘new normal’.

“In the coming weeks we will be holding meetings with key government ministers and the information we receive from this survey will help us shape the topics of these discussions,” said Beth Potter, president and chief executive of TIAO in a press release.

The survey, the seventh by TIAO since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be open until 8 a.m. on July 31.

“When government policies have failed to meet the needs of the industry, we’ve been able to provide real-time information to support our recommendations to adjust them,” Potter continued. 

“From debt relief and tax deferrals to our proposal for a moratorium on commercial evictions, cutting red tape to accommodate the increased need for patio dining and flexible alcohol sales, our direct lines of communication and engagement with stakeholders has been integral,” she said.

The survey will also look to evaluate whether current provincial and federal support is reaching where it is most needed and if there is sufficient financial support for businesses to survive a further elongated period of physical restrictions.

Preliminary results will be published 72-hours after the close of the survey on TIAO’s website.
