The Blue Mountains officially has a new deputy fire chief.

Cameron Smith was recently hired as the town’s new full-time deputy fire chief. Fire Chief Steve Conn recently introduced Smith to council at a committee of the whole meeting.

In an interview with CollingwoodToday, Smith said he has been enjoying his time living and working in the area.

“It’s been a lot of fun. There are a lot of good people. It’s a beautiful area,” he said.

Smith is in his 25th year as a firefighter. He joined the Ajax department in 1998 as a part-time volunteer and went full-time in 2000. He has also worked in Kawartha Lakes.

“It goes very quickly, it’s been an amazing career,” he said.

Smith said he is enjoying his time with The Blue Mountains Fire Department.

“I love it. It’s a great group of firefighters and a great group of people,” he said. “Everybody I have met has been extremely nice.”
