NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF THE BLUE MOUNTAINS

For the 14th year in a row, the Town of The Blue Mountains has administered its grants and donations program to support local community groups and organizations.

This year, $35,567 was shared equally and provided support to 20 different groups and organizations throughout the Town of The Blue Mountains.

“We are so pleased to be able to help out so many of our local community organizations and groups again this spring,” says Councillor Peter Bordignon, chair of the grants and donations committee. “This funding will allow our local community organizations to maintain operations through ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, with many organizations being unable to host their regularly scheduled fundraising events and will provide support to the critical work that they do for The Blue Mountains community.”

Over the past two years, the grants and donations program has contributed a total of $52,131 to support community groups and organizations. The majority of this funding has been raised through donations from local businesses, families and individuals through initiatives such as the 2020 Community Donations Challenge and the limited fundraising events hosted in 2020 including the highly successful LobsterFest and Oktoberfest.

“Previous to 2019, the grants and donations program was funded through general taxation,” explains Bordignon. “In 2019, the program was shifted to follow a self-funding model. The success of this program over the past two years has been driven by our local community members and this truly shows how passionate our community is to step up and support one another through challenging and difficult times, and in the face of adversity, the need from our community has never been higher.”

To raise additional funds, the grants and donations committee is hosting the second-annual LobsterFest dinner on Saturday, July 3, 2021. The dinner will be hosted drive-thru style and will feature delicious east coast lobster, BBQ chicken and all of the fixings. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the LobsterFest website or call 519-599-3345.
