The Town of The Blue Mountains is encouraging members of the community to participate in Pitch-In Canada Week, taking place from April 22 – April 28, 2024.

Pitch-In Canada Week encourages participants to pick up litter from parks, trails, shorelines, and public spaces throughout their community during the week of Earth Day - Monday, April 22, 2024.

A variety of community clean-ups will take place in the town during Pitch-In Week.

Events include:

  • Georgian Bay Forever is hosting a shoreline cleanup on Earth Day at Little River Park on Monday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.
  • A clean-up has been organized by the Clarksburg Village Association in Clarksburg from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 27 at Lion’s Park.
  • Beaver Valley Outreach (BVO) is organizing a clean-up starting at the Beaver Valley Community Centre (BVCC), on Saturday, April 27 from noon until 2 p.m.
  • Climate Action Now Network (CANN) is hosting a community clean-up on Saturday, April 27 from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., meeting at the town hall.

All clean-ups encourage bringing gloves, garbage bags, and a Ziploc bag for cigarette butt collection.

“Let's come together as a community to make a difference this Earth Week” said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. “I look forward to participating in both Clarksburg and Thornbury Pitch-In events and encourage everyone who is able to join us. Each year I am proud of the community effort during Pitch-In Canada Week to help keep The Blue Mountains clean and beautiful for generations to come. Whether larger gatherings or smaller neighbourhood efforts, everyone's help counts."

Pitch-In branded waste collection bags are also available for free at town hall and at the landfill and recycling depot, while supplies last. Once filled, waste collection bags can be placed curbside on your normal collection day. The bags will be collected free of charge, with no garbage tags necessary.

The town also encourages Pitch-In Canada Week participants to separate any refundable containers from the collected litter, including wine, liquor and beer bottles, beer cans, plastic milk jugs and Millers Milk glass bottles, and deliver these materials to the Bottles for BVO apple bin located at Beaver Valley Outreach, or The Blue Mountains Landfill and Recycling Depot.
