The Town of the Blue Mountains (TBM) is moving forward with its proposed ambassador program that will see volunteers move throughout the community to help visitors navigate the town's COVID-19 rules.

“The intention of the ambassador program is to provide information and to inform and remind our residents and visitors of our commitment to COVID-19 recovery policies, guidelines and rules and to help residents and visitors enjoy their experiences in this new normal,” stated Everitt a staff report to council.

TBM staff have estimated the cost of rolling out the ambassador program to be $30,000. In the report to council, expenses for the program are listed as materials and clothing.

The funds for this program have been allocated with the TBM Community Reopening Plan, which has an upset limit of $260,000.

Everitt notes that the TBM has been working very closely with the Blue Mountains Village Association on this initiative.

“At the time of drafting this report, final details had not been determined. However, sharing of resources and sharing costs are actively being discussed with the president of the Blue Mountain Village Association,” he said.

Town staff are currently developing a volunteer policy that will be vetted through the town’s senior management group.

Issuance of fines will be handled by the town’s expanded and trained co-op municipal bylaw officers only.

TBM plans to utilize its recently established Explore Blue website to provide further information about the program.
