A total of six employees at the Town of The Blue Mountains (TBM) have tested positive for COVID-19.
TBM declared a COVID-19 outbreak on Jan. 1 after three employees from the same department tested positive for the virus.
On Jan. 2, an additional five COVID-19 cases were reported in TBM by the Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU).
According to Dr. Ian Arra, medical officer of health for GBHU, three of those five cases are considered to be a part of the outbreak cluster.
“There have been three more cases on Jan. 2 to a total of six,” Arra stated. “Two out of these three cases were from Grey-Bruce, and one from another health unit.”
Arra confirms the GBHU team has followed up with all cases and the individuals are in self isolation.
The employees have not been identified but the town has confirmed the staff members work in the same department and do not interact with the public.
According to Arra, the source of transmission stems from outside of Grey-Bruce.
“Evidence points out that most probably the acquisition of the Source Case (not the first identified case) took place in another health unit,” he said.
All individuals that were in direct or close contact with the identified cases have also been contacted and instructed to self isolate.
