After the successful inaugural event last fall, the RAM Rodeo will be coming back to Grey Highlands in 2022.

Granted approval by council on Feb. 2, the event will take place May 27-29 and once again showcase rodeo competitions like barrel racing, bull riding, bronc riding and pole bending.

Tickets for both rodeo events completely sold out in 2021, and over $35,000 dollars was raised in support of the new Markdale hospital.

All net proceeds from the 2022 event will be donated to the new hospital as well.

Council agreed on $180,000 in funding for the hospital during the 2022 budget deliberations, to be paid out over a five year period.

"We committed [last year's] money to the new hospital ... thanks to our community, for sure, that was a great thing," said Mayor Paul McQueen. "Kudos to our community and our staff for all they did, and our sponsorship and the people that attended."

McQueen anticipates similar success and community engagement for the 2022 event.

"As we're coming out of the place that we are right now, I think that outdoor events [will see] a real uptake ... because people were so enthused to just be able to do something [last year]," he said.
