One new COVID-19 case reported in the Blue Mountains today

Today, the Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting two new COVID-19 cases, which are located in the Blue Mountains and West Grey. 

The health unit has reported a total of 1,254 cases to date. There are 35 active cases in both counties combined and GBHU is currently tracking 121 high-risk contacts associated with the active cases.

Active cases in Grey County are currently located in Owen Sound (5), Southgate (2), The Blue Mountains (2), Hanover (1), West Grey (5), Meaford (2), Georgian Bluffs (6) and Chatsworth (2).

The region has had a total of 315 variant cases, 21 of which are active. 

Six Grey-Bruce residents have died from COVID-19 and there are currently three residents being hospitalized with COVID-related illness.

In addition, five cases have been transferred from other health unit’s to local Intensive Care Units. All five cases remain with the transferring health unit and are not reflected in local case counts.

Of GBHU’s 1,254 cumulative cases, 1,213 cases are resolved.

Resolved COVID-19 cases in Grey County include: Owen Sound (224), Southgate (130), Blue Mountains (136), Grey Highlands (97), Hanover (68), West Grey (71), Meaford (49), Chatsworth (24) and Georgian Bluffs (25). 

To-date the health unit has administered 70,596 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to GBHU, 47.5 per cent of the eligible population in Grey Bruce has received the first dose of the vaccine and 3.6 per cent have received both doses. 

GBHU received a shipment of 4,680 doses on May 10, which will be focused on vaccine distribution to clients 55 years and older, First Nation communities and First Nation clients, immuno-compromised/pregnancy focused clinics; those with the highest and high-risk health conditions; eligible priority groups; school and childcare staff.

In addition, GBHU has launched an app to assist Grey-Bruce residents in booking their COVID-19 vaccine appointments. The app is now available free to download from Google Play and Apple Stores for all mobile devices and tablets.
