One new case of COVID-19 reported in Grey Highlands today

The health unit is also awaiting confirmation of two cases that have screened positive for variant strains of COVID-19

The Grey Bruce Health Unit (GBHU) is reporting one new case of COVID-19 today, in the municipality of Grey Highlands. 

The health unit has reported two cases that have screened positive for variant strains of COVID-19. The two cases were previously reported and have recovered, but the samples are being sequenced to determine which variant strain is responsible. 

GBHU has reported a total of 718 cases in the region to date, and notes there are 12 active cases in both counties combined. 

There have been two deaths related to COVID-19 in the region and there is currently no one being hospitalized due to COVID at this time.  

Active cases in Grey County are currently located in Southgate (1), Grey Highlands (1) and Chatsworth (1). 

The health unit is currently tracking 47 high-risk contacts associated with active cases.

Of GBHU’s 718 cumulative cases, 704 cases are resolved.

Resolved COVID-19 cases in Grey County include: Owen Sound (115); Southgate (92); Grey Highlands (70); West Grey (49); Blue Mountains (45); Hanover (46); Meaford (23); Georgian Bluffs (7); Chatsworth (9). 

To-date GBHU has currently administered 12,135 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This week, the health unit has focused its vaccine distribution on residents over the age of 80, First Nations communities and high priority healthcare workers.
