A veteran and a newcomer have registered to run for council in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.
Long-time former councillor Lynn Silverton has filed nomination papers to run for a council seat. Silverton served on Grey Highlands council for a number of years, but was not re-elected in 2018. Newcomer Dan Wickens is also seeking a councillor’s chair in the October election.
Wickens and Silverton join current councillor Dane Nielsen, who is running for the deputy mayor’s seat, as the only declared candidates in Grey Highlands.
Grey Highlands also has a new candidate for the English Trustee position on the Grey Bruce Catholic District School Board. Jocelin Rivest has filed nomination papers for that position. Also running for the seat is incumbent Robyn Garvey Wiseman.
The other candidate for a school board position is Eric LaPointe, who has filed nomination papers for Conseil Scolaire Viamonde Sector 5 trustee position, which includes Bruce, Grey, Simcoe and Dufferin counties.
In The Blue Mountains, the list of council candidates has remained static for several weeks. Incumbent councillor Andrea Matrosovs is running for Mayor, incumbent councillor Paula Hope is seeking reelection and newcomer Shawn McKinlay is running for a council seat.
Two candidates have registered for the English Trustee seat on the Grey Bruce Catholic District School Board. Michael Black and Bruce Muise are running for the position.
Incumbent Frances Morgan is running again to represent The Blue Mountains and the Municipality of Meaford on the Bluewater District School Board.
Those interested in running in the election have until August 19 to file their application. The election will be held on October 22, 2022.
