The Isla Street water pumping station in Markdale is getting a new roof.

A leaky roof and a water pumping station don't go well together.

At its meeting on Feb. 15, Grey Highlands council heard that the Isla Street water pumping station in Markdale is getting a new roof - ASAP.

A report to council explained that the roof at the building had experienced flooding in recent months, the roof has been leaking and municipal staff have taken the steps to procure a new roof.

The report came to council for information purposes. Cruickshank Flat Roofing will install a new roof for $9,542, excluding HST. The deal includes a 10-year warranty and the roof, which will be a thermoplastic polyolefin membrane with perimeter flashing, is expected to last 25-35 years.

“As this was an emergency situation, staff have the authority to authorize payment. They have gone ahead,” said Coun. Nadia Dubyk.

Currently, the building has a tarp in place to mitigate the leaking roof.

“I’m happy to see (staff) moved fast on this one,” said Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen. “That is the main water supply for Markdale.”
