The new ice rental rates in the Municipality of Grey Highlands continue to be a hot button topic.

At council’s meeting on April 17, Coun. Nadia Dubyk signalled her intention to bring forward a resolution to lower ice rental rates at the arena in Rocklyn.

On April 3, council passed a bylaw to set a new standard ice rental rates for the municipality’s four arenas. The new rates are $132 per hour in prime time and $88 per hour in non-prime time.

Initially council ended a 20 per cent discount for local minor sports groups renting blocks of 50 hours of time or more, but council reversed that decision after community outcry.

Dubyk said the new rate of $132 represents a 30 per cent increase in Rocklyn and she said she would bring a resolution to council’s next meeting to lower the rates.

The previous rates in Rocklyn were $115 for prime time and $90 for non-prime time.

Dubyk’s resolution will be on a future council agenda.
