The future of Lake Eugenia is on the minds of members of Grey Highlands council.
At its meeting on June 15, council passed a resolution brought forward by Mayor Paul McQueen to ask staff for a report about what a Lake Carrying Capacity Study for Lake Eugenia would look like.
McQueen said the municipality’s planning documents mention the necessity of a capacity study for Lake Eugenia, but details and the origins of the wording are unclear.
“I’m more interested in the process and what’s involved and what’s required. Is there a possibility of a scoped study?” said McQueen. “I’m trying to get a little more clarity to what’s involved.”
Council agreed with McQueen that it is time for more information on the subject and voted in favour of investigating the feasibility -- including efficacy, scope, timelines, cost, and funding options -- of a Lake Carrying Capacity Study. The information is to be brought to council in the form of a staff report.
McQueen said he’s hoping staff can look at the issue and inform council of the history and justification of the study language in planning policies and noted that the origins of the issue would date back to prior to the Municipality of Grey Highlands being formed.
“It’s written into our documents. Why?” McQueen asked. “I think it’s high time to look at it closer,” he said.
Director of Building and Planning Services Michael Benner said staff would do some research on the topic.
“We’ll be able to come back with a good educational report,” said Benner.
