In 2024 there will be a new clerk for the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

Raylene Martell, the municipality’s current clerk and director of legislative services, has announced she has accepted a position with the Town of Orangeville and will be departing Grey Highlands at the end of 2023.

Martell attended her last council meeting on Dec. 20. At the meeting, council passed a bylaw to appoint Deputy Clerk Amanda VanAlstine as the municipality’s acting clerk. Martell will continue in the position until the end of the year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, council took time to thank Martell for her service to Grey Highlands. Martell joined the municipality in the summer of 2017 after having worked with the Township of Southgate.

“We’ve been guided and blessed by your wealth of knowledge and expertise,” said Mayor Paul McQueen. “I want to thank you for all your years of service with Grey Highlands. All the best for your future.”

Martell said she had “an amazing” six and a half years with Grey Highlands.

“It’s been wonderful. It’s been great, she said, praising her staff colleagues for all their hard work. “I don’t know that I’ve ever worked with a [senior management team) that works as well together as this one. I’m really going to miss it.”

Deputy Mayor Dane Nielsen said he has appreciated Martell’s expertise during his time on council.

“I’ve been privileged to be able to work with Raylene. I’ve been very grateful to have the learning experience under Raylene,” he said.

Martell said that Grey Highlands is in excellent hands with VanAlstine taking over as Acting Clerk.

“Amanda will do wonderful things. She’s ready,” she said.
