Grey County Warden Brian Milne will be seeking a second term in the big chair in the county council chambers.

After county council’s meeting on Oct. 12, Milne confirmed he would seek a second one-year term in the position. Milne did not make a formal announcement during the meeting, but spoke to county councillors present for lunch about his intentions. He later confirmed his plans to run for a second term as warden to the media at the meeting.

“When I was elected as warden a year ago I hoped to see all nine municipalities work closer together with the county to improve outcomes on a number of issues. We have done that but there is always more to do. I’d like the opportunity to continue leading those efforts. Together we are stronger,” Milne said.

Milne was acclaimed to the position a year ago. In Grey County, wardens serve one year in the position. However, in recent years, an informal tradition has emerged that sees wardens serve for two consecutive one-year terms.

Milne also served as warden in 2014 and is currently the mayor of Southgate.

County council will choose the warden at a special meeting on Dec. 5 starting at 5 p.m.

Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen, himself a past warden, was nominated for the warden’s job a year ago, but he declined to stand for election. McQueen told CollingwoodToday after the Oct. 12 meeting that he would not be seeking the warden’s job for 2024.
