Grey County community paramedic Teresa Tibbo has been recognized with a 2023 Medical Directors Award of Excellence by the Southwestern Ontario Regional Base Hospital Program. Tibbo was presented with the award by Dr. Sunil Mehta and Dr. Matthew Davis at the March 28 meeting of Grey County council.

“It’s an honour to bestow the Medical Director’s Award of Excellence to Teresa on behalf of the Base Hospital Medical Council,” said Dr. Davis. “Our Council recognizes and values the significant contributions Teresa has made to both prehospital and out of hospital care for the people of Grey County, and the leadership role she plays amongst her peers.”

The Medical Directors Award of Excellence is awarded to paramedics who demonstrate excellence in pre-hospital and paramedic care. Recipients display outstanding clinical judgement and leadership and advance the practice of paramedicine. A paramedic, community paramedic and nurse, Tibbo is also an active member of Supportive Outreach Services which delivers mental health and addictions care to marginalized people in the community.

“Teresa shows deep commitment and compassion when providing care to those experiencing homelessness and to patients dealing with mental health and addictions challenges. As a leader on our team, she demonstrates exceptional clinical skills and played a pivotal role in developing the Supportive Outreach program,” said Kevin McNab, Grey County director of paramedic services. “Teresa has had a profound impact on the community and is very deserving of this respected award.”

Teresa Tibbo joined Grey County paramedic services in July 2020, and has helped foster a culture of understanding and empathy among fellow paramedics through her ongoing advocacy and training initiatives. She is actively engaged with other local community agencies including police and healthcare providers.

At the meeting she said loves her job as a paramedic and thanked the county for its support.

“The opportunities for growth have been amazing,” said Tibbo. “I have most definitely found my calling. I love what I do.”
