The Courage Campaign flag is flying at town halls across the local region.

On Nov. 24, My Friend’s House held flag raising ceremonies for the Courage Campaign in Wasaga Beach, Clearview, Collingwood and The Blue Mountains.

The Courage Campaign recognizes that November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month and runs from now until the end of December. November 24 is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

In Thornbury, The Blue Mountains Mayor Andrea Matrosovs was joined by fellow councillors, town staff and representatives from My Friends House for the flag-raising ceremony.

Matrosovs read the official declaration at the event.

“It is important we continue to show our support,” she said. “Gender-based violence is unacceptable and not tolerated.”

Alison FitzGerald, executive director of My Friend’s House, attended the ceremonies across the local region.

“This is a world-wide issue,” she said, adding that violence against women is reaching “epidemic proportions. “The Town of The Blue Mountains does give a clear message to women and children that you care about what is happening in their homes.”
