The Town of The Blue Mountains encourages members of the community to participate in Pitch-In Canada Week taking place from April 16 to April 22.

Pitch-In Canada Week encourages participants to pick up litter from parks, trails, shorelines and public spaces throughout their community during the week leading up to Earth Day on Saturday, April 22.

A variety of community clean-ups will take place in the town during Pitch-In Week. Georgian Bay Forever is hosting a shoreline cleanup at Little River Park on Friday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. A clean-up has been organized in Clarksburg from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 22 at Lion’s Park, and Climate Action Now Network will be organizing a community clean-up on Saturday, April 22, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning at The Blue Mountains town hall in Thornbury.

“Please join us at any of these community clean-ups,” said Mayor Andrea Matrosovs. “This is one way families or any age can make a difference for our environment. The town thanks the dedicated members of our community who have organized this tradition year after year.”

Pitch-In branded waste collection bags are available for free at town hall and at the landfill and recycling depot, while supplies last. Once filled, waste collection bags can be placed curbside on your normal collection day. The bags will be collected free of charge, with no garbage tags necessary.

The town also encourages Pitch-In Canada Week participants to separate any refundable containers from the collected litter, including wine, liquor and beer bottles, beer cans, plastic milk jugs and Millers Milk glass bottles, and deliver these materials to the Bottles for BVO apple bin located at the Beaver Valley Outreach, or The Blue Mountains Landfill and Recycling Depot. For more information on the program, please visit the Beaver Valley Outreach website here.

Local residents are encouraged to download the Ontario Public Litter Cleanup Guide for information on how to collect litter safely.
