Mattawa River Resort a year-round destination

Plan your snowmobiling trip or reserve a spot in new RV campground
Mattawa Resort Spotlight

With all the current challenges and confusion surrounding border crossings in the era of Covid, more Ontario residents are looking for vacation opportunities closer to home. That’s good news for vacation properties like the Mattawa River Resort, a spectacular four-season cottage and newly built RV facility just three hours north of Toronto.

Owned and operated by Nicole and Adrian Grigorov, the Mattawa River Resort is a jewel of a property that sits on 147 acres of lush forest nestled alongside the historic Mattawa River. With temperatures in Southern Ontario areas like Niagara recently hitting 18 degrees in mid November, the resort offers a snowy northern playground for snowmobilers and ATV enthusiasts looking for wintery conditions that allow them to finally put their machines to good use.

“We are located right across from the north trail, offering access to thousands and thousands of kilometres of snowmobile trails,” said Nicole, who purchased the property with her husband in 2017.

“When our waterfront freezes, we offer a direct connection to the entire Voyageur A1 Trail System. We’re also close by other entry points that can be reached by roadway.”

The Mattawa River Resort offers a number of rustic cottage options that can sleep from four to sixteen people, making it the perfect winter getaway for guys and ladies who love the thrill of the chill. Whether it’s spending full days racing along the trails, cross country skiing, skating, or ice fishing in the pristine waters of the Mattawa, the Grigorov’s offer visitors the opportunity to customize their stay.

“We have the amazing fully licenced Cardinal Lodge that offers fantastic meals,” said Nicole. “I tend to cater to each individual cottage stay. If eight guys book a cabin and want a meal plan, we cook full turkey dinners, roast beef dinners, or whatever they want. When snowmobilers come here and actually see the resort, they’re hooked. A lot of guests love the convenience of the food packages and having all their buddies in one cabin with a cozy fireplace.

The Mattawa River Resort is also located within a short drive to the Antoine Mountain ski hill, making it a great place to enjoy apres-ski activities in a cottage offering full amenities. “It’s a great thing for schools and students who want to combine a day of skiing with an opportunity to study the local history of the Mattawa,” said Nicole.

While winter snowmobiling season is just now getting underway, many seasonal campers are already looking to book their cottage and RV vacations next summer. One of the new offerings at the Mattawa River Resort is a fully-serviced RV campground that Nicole says has been in the works since she and her husband purchased the resort.

“We excavated the land three years ago but unfortunately due to COVID it kept being delayed,” she said. “We decided to move forward with it this year. We have 30 sites to start. They’re very private, not stacked like cordwood like some camp groups. You actually have space and trees between each site.

The new RV park offers 50-amp service and includes water and septic services. Campers also have the opportunity to pay for a boat slip that offers direct access to the Mattawa River. The eventual plan is to have up to 200 RV sites to compliment the Mattawa’s selection of waterfront cottages.

With COVID restrictions easing, Nicole says anyone interested in booking their stay at the Mattawa River Resort should probably book sooner than later.

“We’re booking Sunday to Sunday now for the summer months. Our summer season is already booked 50 percent for next summer. People need to book now if they’re hoping to enjoy a cottage vacation.”
