Located just west of Blue Mountain at Nottawasaga Bay, the town of Meaford offers charming shops, cozy B&Bs, delightful restaurants and the wonderful Meaford Hall Opera House – a beautiful, 114-year old historic performing arts venue, where guests can experience live theatre and musical acts with exquisite acoustics in a truly intimate setting.

“The Opera House is a 330 seat venue and there is not a bad seat in the house,” says Jenn Brebner, Meaford Hall’s Marketing & Special Events Coordinator. “We are renowned for the acoustics – artists call us to say they’ve heard it’s such a wonderful venue to play and they’d like to perform here.”

Until Saturday, August 19, theatre-goers can enjoy a musical & theatrical production of Tom Thomson’s Wake, an original folk musical featuring Shipyard Kitchen Party.

Tom Thomson’s wake brings the artist to life through friends, lovers, and the land he painted. Two years after renowned painter Tom Thomson’s mysterious death, his friend, his mentor and his lover gather to share their memories of Algonquin Park’s most famous resident.

This spectacular production features stories, high-definition imagery of Tom Thomson and Group of 7 artworks, and an original folk music score by Shipyard Kitchen Party (creators of the musical ‘100 Years From Now’). Tickets for this week’s matinee and evening performances of Tom Thomson’s Wake are available now at the Meaford Hall website.

For a truly interactive experience, be sure to visit The Gallery and take in the exhibit partnership with The Tom and the Tree Trust.

Coming up on Friday, September 8 is Noah Reid, who won the hearts of Canadians with his rendition of “Simply the Best” as Patrick on Schitt’s Creek. “Noah is a top Canadian artist and this will be an amazing show,” says Brebner.

“The kickoff for Noah’s ‘Everything’s Fine’ world tour is going to be here, in Meaford. It’s a pretty incredible opportunity. You won’t be able to see him in any other venue where it’s going to be as intimate as it is here.”

The venue is open year-round with over 100 performances presented this year. The calendar of upcoming performances includes MIFF film screenings that include After Film interviews and the Afterparty in the MIFF Festival Tent with a complementary drink, Chef inspired appetizers, who’s who mingling, popcorn, coffee, and a chance to win the nightly Trivia Quiz prize. Susan Aglukark, Matt Dusk, award-winning fiddler Shane Cook and dozens more amazing shows are planned this year.
