Make a meaningful and lasting impact on the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation while optimizing your financial situation. Explore options that not only benefit donors but also contribute to the foundation's ability to provide essential end-of-life care and support to those in need.

Sandra Sullivan, the Executive Director of Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation, said there are several tax-efficient methods of giving, such as donating appreciated stock. Sullivan highlighted that when stocks are transferred directly to a charity, donors are not required to pay capital gains tax on the appreciated value.

Alternatively, by naming Hospice Georgian Triangle as a beneficiary of your life insurance policy, you can provide an ongoing charitable legacy, ensuring your support will continue after your death. Depending on how you structure your plan, you may receive a sizeable tax advantage during your lifetime.

Similarly, adding Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation as a partial or full beneficiary of your RRSP or RRIF is a highly tax-effective strategy for leaving a legacy gift. A charitable receipt can be applied up to 100 per cent of your net income in the year of death and the preceding tax year.

Impact your community through charitable donations

Sullivan emphasized that legacy giving has a profound impact on charitable organizations. She shared a poignant video produced for a gala featuring a legacy gift from donors who have since passed away. This heartwarming video demonstrates the transformative effect of such gifts on organizations like Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation.

Prominent supporter Ricki Thompson passed away on Oct. 20, 2022. A notable philanthropist, teacher and civic leader, Ricki and her late husband, Bob, are celebrated for their unwavering belief in community service and charitable contributions.

Ricki's dedication to charity was highlighted at the 2022 Care Gala, where she pledged to match donations up to $100,000, raising an unprecedented almost $400,000 for the event.

The Thompsons' generosity is prominently showcased in the Robert C. and Ricki Thompson Sanctuary Garden at Campbell House, which serves as a serene refuge for patients and families.

This tranquil space is equipped with walkways, seating zones, a bridge, a pond and a beautiful canopy of trees and perennials. The garden, dedicated to Ricki’s late husband, Robert Thompson, a respected lawyer who passed in 2011, is an essential part of the facility, hosting various support programs, including grief counselling and caregiver sessions.

The Thompsons' enduring gift promises that the Hospice Georgian Triangle will provide outstanding end-of-life care for many future generations.

“Philanthropy is investing in social services,” Sullivan said. “It’s not just a gift. They're actually investing in the future of their community.”
