Whitechurch police shooting sends two to hospital

HURON-KINLOSS - On Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 at approximately 12:27 a.m., Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle on Whitechurch Street near Whitechurch for a traffic violation. 

Police then had an interaction with one of the vehicle occupants which led to a police shooting.     

Two males have since been arrested and taken into custody. 

One officer and one suspect attended a local hospital where they were both treated and later released with non-life threatening injuries.

Police have closed a portion of Whitechurch Street between Highway 86 and South Kinloss Avenue for the investigation. The roadway is expected to remain closed for the next few hours.

The OPP has notified the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
