Vehicle search leads police to handgun, cocaine, heroin: OPP

Wasaga Beach woman faces a slew of impaired, firearm and drug charges

WASAGA BEACH - On Dec. 22, 2019 at approximately 12:12 a.m., members of the Huronia West detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting general patrol when a vehicle was observed in a snowbank on the shoulder of the road. Upon speaking to the lone occupant, officers quickly determined that the driver was impaired.

 The driver was arrested and the vehicle was searched, resulting in officers locating a loaded .9mm Beretta handgun, 0.5 grams of cocaine and 1.8 grams of purple heroin.

33-year-old Melissa Swan of Wasaga Beach was charged with:

  • CC 320.15(1) adult failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • CC 320.14(1) (a) - operation while impaired
  • CC 108(1) (a) adult tampering with serial number of a firearm
  • CC 95(b) adult possession of prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition
  • CC 94 adult occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
  • CC 92(1) adult knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • CC 92(1) adult unauthorized poss of a firearm
  • CC 90 adult carrying concealed weapon
  • CDSA 4(1) adult poss of a schedule I substance- cocaine
  • CDSA 4(1) adult poss of a schedule I substance- heroin

 The accused was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.
