Two dead in head-on crash on Highway 26

Two others suffer serious injuries

CLEARVIEW TOWNSHIP - On Aug. 31, 2019 shortly before 11 p.m. members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a serious head-on collision on Highway 26 in Clearview Township.

The initial investigation reveals, a Ford Mustang was passing numerous vehicles on Highway 26 when it collided head-on with a Chevrolet Blazer. The 67-year-old driver, and lone occupant, of the Blazer sustained serious injury and was transported to a Toronto area trauma centre. The 20-year-old male driver of the Mustang also sustained serious injury and was taken to an area hospital. The passengers in the Mustang, a male 20 years old and a female 19 years old, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 26 was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured, photographed and collected evidence. The roadway reopened shortly after 5 a.m.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. The names of the deceased persons are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
