Two charged after $70K in drugs seized in Grey, Bruce counties

Police also seized thousands of dollars' worth of currency, contraband cigarettes

Two people have been charged by Grey Bruce OPP following an investigation that netted nearly $70,000 in illegal drugs.

Grey Bruce OPP and the Owen Sound Police Service began the investigation in 2022. On Thursday, several warrants were executed across Grey and Bruce counties.

Police seized 697 grams of suspected illegal drugs worth about $69,785, as well as $14,629 in “offence-related currency.” A second amount of currency was seized and is still being processed. Police also recovered pills believed to be controlled substances, about $6,440 worth of contraband cigarettes, and other property “consistent with drug trafficking.”

A 52-year-old resident of South Bruce Peninsula has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and failure to comply with an undertaking. The accused was held for a bail hearing in Owen Sound court.

A 49-year-old resident of Owen Sound has been charged with possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of unmarked cigarettes. The accused was released and will appear in Owen Sound court at a later date.

Owen Sound police have arrested and charged three other people.
