Police are still working to identify suspects who “severely damaged” a car with wood sticks while three people were inside.

According to Sergeant Jason Folz of the Ontario Provincial Police, the victims were in the car exiting a private lot in Wasaga Beach when two other vehicles blocked the first vehicle in, preventing it from driving.

Suspects got out of both vehicles and began hitting the first vehicle with wood objects, smashing windows while the three passengers remained inside. Police report there were no injuries.

Folz said it’s not clear what objects were used to inflict the damage, but the police report notes “fragments of a wooden stick were left behind.”

Though posts on social media indicated it was a racially motivated crime, Folz said that’s not the case.

“There’s a sense that perhaps they’re known to each other, and this was targeted mischief to the car stemming to altercations in Brampton area,” said Folz.

The suspects have not been identified and were wearing masks, though the kind of mask was not specified in the police report.

The incident occurred in Wasaga Beach on July 5 around 9:30 p.m. in the Queensdale Avenue area.

Folz said police are looking for witnesses. Anyone who may have seen the incident is asked to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or visit Crime Stoppers at www.crimestopperssdm.com or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
